Devialet Gold Phantom

(Click on image to view product details and price)

My God! These are so sweet. It’s like eating the best apple pie in the world with a side of the greatest vanilla ice cream in the world as well. But this is no plain vanilla ice cream were talking about. Far from it. We are talking about a new flavor of ice cream. It’s called The Devialet Gold Phantom. These were designed and manufactured in France, that explains the shape of this speaker. The shape can be described as an alien egg.

This is an engineering masterpiece. It sounds like a masterpiece. It is a masterpiece. Such powerful low end bass with two side drivers with awesome separation between the mid range tones and the high end vocals. But my words cant really explain how these speakers look and feel. You’ll have to look up YouTube videos, which there are many to even get a glimpse of the awesomeness of this speaker.

This amazing speaker claims to produce 4500 peak watts for a high power performance you will  not soon forget. This speaker is loud and in charge. By the look of this speaker you would think that this is a directional speaker but it’s being marketed as a surround speaker which I will find out as soon as this quarantine is over.

I just cant get over the small size of this speaker but it does have a pretty substantial weight of 28lbs. That weight allows a vacuum to develop to create the massive bass sounds that emanate from this speaker. You can pair them up to produce a stereo soundstage and you can do a multi room set up as well. This also has a smartphone app that promises easy pairing.

There are several models available. This one The Gold Phantom is the most expensive at about $3,000. There are smaller models (Reactor) available and they all sound incredible. You can see the Reactor models  here  with a starting price of $1090.00.

One big huge concern for me are the customer service nightmares that I have read. This is the only sub 4-star reviewed product I have ever showcased.

Bang & Olufsen Beosound Balance

(Click on image to view product details and price)

A brand new Bluetooth speaker was released and I love this brand with a passion. The Bang & Olufsen Beosound Balance available in two finishes, Natural Oak and Black. These are made to be directional so you place against a wall for the best sound and in return you will get the best rich bass, the best clear mid-range and the best sparkling highs giving you a sophisticated listening experience. I’ll have mine with a glass of Cabernet and brie served at room temperature, please.

But that’s not all, you can also have the sound come from the front, left and right sides of the speaker to be paired with another Beosound Balance for an awesome soundstage for a stereo experience you will not soon forget. These also have multi-room functionality. As always, there is a smartphone app to customize your music to your liking and with the benefit of Bluetooth 5.0 giving you a range of 200′-800′, depending on obstructions.

Premium materials are used in the construction of this speaker. Using a solid oak base with premium-crafted aluminum. The top of this speaker has an aluminum tactile top where you can adjust the volume just by a touch on the rim. Clockwise turns up the volume and counter clockwise will turn the volume down and touch forward to up the track and touch back for a previous track. Proximity sensors will sense you walking up to it, lighting up the LED control paneland dim when you walk away.

The design is Scandinavian minimalist. Beautiful in form and function and beautiful with sound presence. Premium craftsmanship partnered with premium sound performance equals an ultra premium quality product of unfathomable dimensions…”A dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity…” (slap!) My apologies to Rod Sterling.

Anyways as I was saying, This is the cheese in a Quarter Pounder. The supreme in a Burrito Supreme…and finally this put the shake in a milkshake. Get it? For a price of $2,250 it better do that…Maybe the next version will make you your favorite flavor of latte…You never know.

KEF LSX Wireless Music System

(Click on image to view product details and price)

The KEF LSX is their newest wireless speaker that connects through WiFi and Bluetooth. FYI-They still need a powered connection to an electrical source. Everything on this page does.

KEF is a brand from the U.K. known specifically for their well built and good looking ultra HiFi equipment. This looks like a traditional pair of speakers but that’s where the similarity ends. The KEF LSX is a very detailed high resolution compact HiFi digital music system that will churn your ears in to a creamy peanut butter. Smooth and creamy. Almost like using silk Q-tips in and around your ears. Remember, never use a cotton swab to put directly into your ear canal. That was my PSA (Public Service Announcement) for today.

A digital Signal processing algorithm  allows acoustic optimization of specific characteristics for any room. Using their patented Uni-Q Drive unit which places the tweeter at the center of the mid range and bass cone improves stereo imaging so much it lets you believe as if the musicians are right in front of you.

Mids and highs are crisp and tight as vocals and snare drums sound exceptionally remarkable and bass is punchy and unobtrusive. The internal amp pushes the low frequencies at 70W while the high frequencies take 30W for a total of a 100W amp. Each speaker has the dimensions of 9.5 x 6.1 x 7.1in. Meant for a more traditional stereo speaker with a left and right set up than the Devialet and Bang & Olufsen systems…Hold on now. Did I just say that the bass was punchy and unobtrusive? I believe I did say that…

That is why I also recommend the addition of The KEF 8b subwoofer. As you can see I have showcased it below. Now, don’t get me wrong. The KEF LSX sounds great on their own but for that extra oomph I would recommend the subwoofer. For details read below.

Use the KEF Smart connect smartphone app which automatically detects a subwoofer and adjusts the sound levels accordingly. The KEF LSX comes in five colors and it comes with a price of  $1,250. Much less expensive than the previous two systems I showcased.

The KEF KUBE Subwoofer Series

(Click here or on the product image to see price and details)

Deep, tight and powerful bass. What else is their to say. Closed sealed cabinets with a 300Watt amp that pushes a front firing sub…awesome! The KEF KUBE series come in three models. The KUBE 8b with a 8″ subwoofer, the KUBE 10b with a 10″ subwoofer and the KUBE 12b with, of course a 12″ subwoofer. For purposes of size I decided to key in on the 8″ subwoofer. You may want a bigger sub and if you are a basshead and I completely understand.

These subwoofers are not wireless but if I was buying this for myself I wouldn’t mind one extra cable to hide, well actually two including the power connection. You connect the subwoofer by connecting it to the master LSX speaker also known as the right speaker in a dedicated sub connection. KEF Smart Connect will automatically detect and adjust your subs volume accordingly. All that’s left for you is to set your volume and phase selection and choose your DSP (Digital Signal Processing) settings. Settings like in front of a wall, in the corner and standalone placement.

And there you have it. You know have the KEL KUBE 8b Subwoofer connected to your KEL LSX Wireless Music System. Connect your smartphone to your system and be instantly transported to a new dimension of immersive sound.

FYI – The KEL LSX system costs $1,750.00. That’s $500 less than the Bang & Olufsen and $1,250.00 less than the Devialet. Just some food for thought if you are in the market to purchase any of these systems.

If you got this far, thanks for reading.

Fluance Fi70B

(Click on the product image to see price and and details)

You’ve heard of Beauty and the Beast, right? This is the Beauty with the Beast! For the price this may be the loudest Bluetooth speaker available on the planet. This is one finely tuned handsome monster. Check out reviews on YouTube

This bad boi has a total of 6 speakers. That’s right 6. They are broken down in to Dual 1″ Silk Soft Dome Neodymium Ferrofluid Cooled tweeters, Dual 5″ Woven Glass Fiber Composite Drivers with Butyl Rubber Surround Mid-ranges and Dual 8″ Polymer Treated High Excursion Butyl Rubber Surround woofers powered by a amp that produces 280 continuous watts. This well engineered speaker creates a beautiful sound at an affordable price.

The speaker itself weighs 81lbs. The included stand makes this weigh in at around 100lbs. Not a typical portable Bluetooth speaker but this blows just about every Bluetooth speaker out of the water into outer space. Look at the ratings. 4.6 out of 5 stars! This biggie is a statement piece, a handsome, well built and powerful statement piece at that. And at the price of $599.99 this is much more affordable than most speaker systems. The only thing you need is space to park this beast on. The dimensions without the stand is 23.2″H x 29.5″W x 11″D with the stand  it’s 36″H x 29.5″W x 11″D.

Mom! I know what I want for Christmas! Ma! What do you mean I have to carry this on my own!…Ma?

Listening to music is subjective. The sound that emanates from any of these headphones, earbuds, speakers and the like, will be different for each individual. So please be aware, what may sound good to me doesn’t mean it will sound good to you. Please read or watch reviews on any product that I showcase. Or listen to a friends’. Or, go to a retail store and try it out there. A little knowledge can go a long way…then you can buy from me. (Wink, wink)

  1. By reading this article, I can tell that The Devialet Gold Phantom sounds like an awesome speaker. I am sure that will come in handy to everyone that loves throwing parties.

For me, the speaker is a little bit expensive, but that is understandable since it is a well manufactured speaker.

Do you have an article for best budget speakers as well? I would love reading it if yes!

    1. Hello Baki,

I did feature very expensive speakers in my article. These are the most expensive I have ever featured. If you look at my complete website you can find all sorts of audio equipment that is less expensive than these.

This is a page full of wireless Bluetooth speakers. These are all brands that I believe are among the bet in their class.

  2. wow! thanks for sharing this information. I never knew that such cool bluetooth audio devices could go for prices such a this. Considering their features and aesthetic values I thought  they will cost way more. I guess I”ll have to purchase one from this list to enjoy such awesome features. I think I’ll go for the KEF LSX wireless music system.

  3. Thanks for your article describing Bluetooth speakers. I’m particularly drawn to the B&O, doesn’t it look exquisite mounted on the natural oak base – ideal for a living room. Bluetooth speakers have come along way in terms of developing rich base tones into a small unit, designed to fill a room with pure sound quality.
Thanks for introducing me to this new speaker – B&O has always been top of the range for audio equipment,

  4. Is the Gold Phantom item really worth that kind of money? About £2,000 – £2,500 in British currency seems ludicrous, no matter how amazing the sound quality is.

    1. Value is a relative thing. Some will buy it for its different looks, many will buy it for its incredible sound. Others who have an endless supply of money will buy it as a status symbol. I’ve seen speakers that cost $65,000. Is the speaker worth the price tag? To me no. I personally don’t have $3,000 to throw around for a speaker. There are many speakers that sound great to me at a much lower price point. I just thought to give it some exposure to show others that this kind of speaker exists. Thanks for the comment.

  5. I have been hearing about Bluetooth speakers for a very long time now, but this is the first article I have actually read about them. I find them extremely impressive, but at the same time quite expensive. I was wondering could you recommend any of these speakers that are more affordable for people living on a low-income?

    1. There are 1’000’s of budget Bluetooth speakers out there today. Especially totally wireless models. Just try to avoid the Chinese knock-off’s and stick to brands you have heard of. That way if you need support you can get it fairly easily where as Chinese imported items frequently don’t have any support.

  6. Bluetooth speakers are becoming more and more popular these days. Not only it’s simple and easy to connect, it makes our home pretty and cozy as well without sacrificing the richness of the sound.
Plus, you can take it anywhere with you if you want.

Among the speakers, you’ve reviewed, The Bang & Olufsen is the one I’m quite familiar. Some LG phones have it as its sounds system, so, I’m pretty sure about the quality would be superb.
Although the price is quite high, investing to one good quality speakers would not be a problem.

The problem with bluetooth speakers though, are the batteries. How long do you think the batteries last? And How about the charging time?

    1. Hello Mina,
Thank you for your insightful comment. Most of the Bluetooth products I carry use a lithium-ion battery and are rechargeable. These do not have a battery. These require an electric w\power supply to plug into. There are other Bluetooth speakers on my website that use a battery charge.

  7. Helooo there, a big thanks to you for sharing this beautiful and informational article on Bluetooth audios. this is exactly what my friend needs , he is a music freak and he’s basically considering getting a bluetooth audio speakers, I am very sure he is going to love one of these. I will definitely forward this to him.

    1. Thank you. Don’t forget to tell your friend that my website has more offerings.

  8. Hey nice article you have there, your thoughts are indeed invaluable. I was researching online on quality Bluetooth speaker, I was directed to this article. Having gone through the features of various musical system highlighted in this article, I am convinced that the KEF LSX wireless music system will be a perfect choice for me, as it has the basic functions I need in a quality speaker and can accommodate my budget level

    1. Thanks for the comment.

The KEF LSX is a great music system. They are attractive, built well and sound sophisticated and accurate. You can always expand your speakers with a subwoofer at a later date if you ever want to go that way.

  9. Thanks for this informative review and taking the time to share your in-depth choices for bluetooth lovers.  Bluetooths are such an awesome item to have because they are super easy to travel with and are great for when friends come over to entertain with your favorite tunes.  I have to say these bluetooth speakers have come along way in how sleek and nice they looking they are!  Not to mention how updated they’ve gotten.  Not only can you listen to music but it can be used as an a nice piece to decorate your home because of their stylish design.

    1. Hi Lindsey,

I agree with you wholeheartedly. The tech involved in Bluetooth has grown exponentially since they first came out and it will get better. Their designs have also matured as they become fashion statements for the masses. I do enjoy my growing Bluetooth collection.

  10. Hi, I don’t know anything about this myself, but the fewer wires I have at home, the better. It seems to me that you are a complete enthusiast and would like to ask how many speakers you already have at home and whether you build them yourself with home tools.

    1. I currently have 2 Bluetooth speakers, 1 Bluetooth headphone which I absolutely love. I also have other Bluetooth devices. 2 mice, 2 keyboards, my iPhone6 and iPhone11. I have also owned 2 more Bluetooth sport headphones which I use for working out at the gym and two other Bluetooth speakers that I wore out. I bought all of my devices as I am not an electrical engineer and I don’t own any of the tools or materials to build my own.

  11. Thanks for sharing the information about the Bluetooth audio speakers and the amazing sounds they produce. The B & OBB is great though appears pricey; I think this has to do with the quality. I will like to know if there is any risk associated with using the Bluetooth speaker. I know it is designed to be secure, but is it not possible for similar device nearby to connect with it if this is so, how may the device be protected.

    1. Hello Debbie,

You can connect more than one B&O speaker to a single source of music for a multi-room experience and you can pair two to create a stereo sounstage with a left and right output. It can only be connected to a single source of music at a time and you have to use the B&O smartphone app to connect to speakers. I hope I answered your question.

  12. Hey nice article you have there, your thoughts are indeed invaluable. I have used other bluetooth speakers before but this Phantom seems to be just amazing.  I love the look of it, the free upgrades and the vibrational mechanism.
Having stumbled into this article, I have gotten a better perspective of this amazing Phantom device.

Great to see the other comparable speakers too, but I still really love the features of the Devialet Gold Phantom.  What a collection of high end sound masterpieces.

    1. Hello John,

The features and design build are indeed unparalleled. There is nothing like this in the market…it’s a one of a kind from Devialet. The only concern I have about this brand is the nightmare customer service issues since they are designed and built in France.

  13. Great website and info!  I always try to buy the best of everything so I’m glad you pointed out these are the premium, extra cheese and supreme models!  I’m specifically interested in the B&O.  Do you know what kind of range they have?  Like what is the maximum distance they can be from the source?  Would I be able to take it outside with me and let it play music in my yard if my stereo source is indoors?  Thanks again for a great review.

    1. Hello Jamie,

The B&O Beosound has a power connection that needs an electrical socket. B&O does have other models that have a re-chargeable battery and are also Bluetooth enabled. so they are totally wireless The Beosound can receive transmissions through walls so if you go outside and have unimpeded visual site I’m sure that you will be able to hear it at a significant distance. Thanks for the comment.

  14. Nice review on bluetooth speakers. Actually i am a fan of bluetooth speaker and other wireless gadgets. i actually use the KEF LSX Wireless Music System which is part of your review.I am really enjoying the speakers.I was using a cheaper Bluetooth speaker in my room. I decided to upgrade but I didn’t want the complexity of an amplifier and passive speakers. The highs are clear and the bass has plenty of punch.
