Bluetooth Boombox Speakers | What a Delight

Aiwa Exos-9

Sacre Bleu! Is this the king of Bluetooth Boombox Speakers? Are the glory days of bass back? Many say, YES! Just look at the ratings for this speaker. 4.7 out of 5. This is no slouch boombox. This baby comes with home stereo power, 200 Watts of power that creates sound that will rattle your head and shake your ass so much you might release a little bit of….Okay. Enough of that.

The power of The Aiwa Rxos-9 comes from it’s 6.5″ dual voice-coli sub woofer. Along with it’s 4 other speakers will give you enough deep bass, with (2) balanced mids and (2) crisp treble speakers to make some serious trouble with the neighbors or the beachgoers next to you. But instead of starting trouble, invite them over to partake in the festivities.

Use it for a party and even if there is no power plug you can use the included lithium-ion battery which can power up this bad boy bass monster for 9 hours. Connect your iOS or Android device to it and play a playlist that you created for the party….YEEAAAHHH!

Watch the enclosed video and get a look how the sub woofer reacts to music being played. It’s like its private parts are being hooked up to an electrical connection.

Comes with a  digital 5 band equalizer so you can further customize your sound to the exact way you want it to sound.

You gotta hear this to believe it. The Aiwa Exos-9…a force to be reckoned with…Because. This is a loud boombox…No, I mean a LOUD BOOMBOX!

The Harmon Kardon Onyx Studio 6

(Click image below to view the details)

The smallest of the boomboxes I have showcased but don’t judge a book by it’s cover…Isn’t that what your momma taught you? Granted, the bigger size of the Aiwa EXOS-9 and the JBL Boombox will have a deeper bass punch compared to the Harmon Kardom Onyx Studio 6. But audiophiles out there will enjoy the natural bass sounds of the Harmon Karmon over the Aiwa and the JBL units. Afterall, not everybody is a basshead…like me.

The sound of the bass is most impressive at around 50-70%. It has achieved total balance with the mid-range and tweeter units. The bass was clean, deep and punchy playing well with the mids and tweeters. It sounded really good and natural.

And don’t let it’s good and refined looks fool you. This unit can be taken outdoors to the beach, picnics, pool parties, pretty much anywhere outdoors. It has a IPX7 waterproof rating which means it can take being submerged in 1 meter of water for a period of 30 minutes…This is like a pretty boy who can fight…No…I’m not talking about me…Why. What have you heard???

Anyway, this is an impressive unit.

JBL Boombox 2

I’d like to say that these are an upgrade from the original JBL Boombox, but I’m not really sure that the upgraded price is worth it. This is a $500.00 unit.  But I am sure that the price will go down eventually. For that kind of money I would expect more thundering bass coming out of this unit or at least make me  cup of coffee. Not the rise in the mids and the piercing highs that these can produce at high volume. JBL states that the JBL Boombox 2 has the battery capacity of 24 hours at around 50% volume. That fact was impressive…most impressive…

This is a handsome unit and has rugged bones. This thing is waterproof with a rating of IPX7. This means that the JBL Boombox 2 has been submersed underwater at a depth of 1 meter for a period of 30 minutes. Now that’s tough.

FYI – The sub woofers operate at 30 watts when using the battery and 40 watts when using the electrical plug. Something to be aware of.

You can also make the party bigger with it’s ability to connect with another JBL Boombox 2 with Partyboost for stereo sound or symc up to 100 JBL speakers while also charging your devices! This unit will get loud. I think that the best selling point is its IPX7 Waterproof rating. That alone makes this a handsomely rugged piece to own. Pretty nifty, huh?

Monster Superstar Blaster Boombox

(Click image image to view details)

These are not for audiophiles. No freakin’ way! These are meant to listen to Hip Hop and Rap. There will be no Beethoven, Bach or any other classical music to be played on the Monster Superstar Blaster Boombox…unless a huge bass beat has been embedded in to them.

These babies are meant to be played loud outside at a pool party, BBQ, Tailgate, Picnic and the beach. These sound optimal on a hard surface, one where you can feel the subwoofers bouncing off of. I’m sure if your girl would sit close enough to it it may give her an orgasmic experience….If you know what I mean. 😉 Uh Huh, that’s right!

This is a rugged and handsome piece of equipment. It’s not rated IPX7 waterproof but it is water resistant. So don’ be afraid to jump in the pool with that pretty girl in your arms. A splash of water wont kill this unit.

These are high performance wireless Bluetooth speakers that come with a rugged handle to carry them around. And these have an EQ mode of inside and outside and believe me when I say that you want to play these outside.

This Monster has bi-directional speakers that play out the front and back and if you place the unit against a wall the reflected sound will amplify the bass even more.

It’s claimed battery life is 12 hours at 50% volume…so be close to a plug so you can play at high volume to keep the party going…but please invite the neighbors. You don’t want them getting jealous of your party gathering and dancing without them being invited to groove wit you.

Note

Listening to music is subjective. The sound that emanates from any of these headphones, earbuds, speakers and the like, will be different for each individual. So please be aware, what may sound good to me doesn’t mean it will sound good to you. Please read or watch reviews on any product that I showcase. Or listen to a friends’. Or, go to a retail store and try it out there. A little knowledge can go a long way…then you can buy from me. (Wink, wink)

  1. Hey Courtney, Thanks for sharing this post!!! Wow, im seeing an Aiwa speaker after ages! In fact, I always assumed Aiwa shutdown or was not operational anymore as I don’t seem any of their products anymore. Well at least in India I dont think they are. While their speaker might not look as aesthetically appealing as other brands, it’s without a doubt a power-packed boombox. The design of the HK Onyx speaker is also pretty captivating. Really like the collection of boombox speakers you’ve reviewed! 🙂

    1. Yup. I thought that Aiwa was done too. But the Exo-9’s are a great bass heavy boombox if you are into that sort of thing which I am. The Harmon Kardon’s are also a well dressed waterproofed boombox as well. Thanks for enjoying my post.

  2. Entertainment must be a part of every person’s life. When entertainment is done with the Best Tools such as Exo-9.
The info here is professionally presented. I wish many people could get on board with this.

  3. Hey Courtney,

Great review of the Bluetooth Boombox Speakers. Since working from home under lockdown I’ve realised that my current speakers are well in need of a revamp. I need new ones basically.

I will let you now which ones I buy and will give you my own review of them.

Thanks for sharing such an informative article. Keep up the great work on your website.

    All the best,

    Tom

  4. Thank you for sharing this excellent overview of speakers. I could really use a speaker really, as I am using my phone mainly to listen to music with at the moment, and you can imagine, it is not the best. I really like that Harman Kardon speaker and I checked out the price and I have to say I was happily surprised how affordable it is.
I do like the boom box, by this is definitely out of my budget for purchasing a speaker at this stage. I will have a little think about purchasing the Harman Kardon as this seems like a decent buy. Thanks a lot for your review, I appriciate it. Jude

  5. Hi Courtney, I like your style of writing. This description of your boom box makes me want to buy it now. I like the versatility you describe, indoor and outdoor use. I am a musician and for me the bass keeps the music humming in the right place, if its clean and clear at that low pitch. This is right for party time and the unit is durable and easy to move. One big plus for me is the EQ that allows the user to adjust to their own taste. Who is to tell, Beethoven and Bach might just sound good on it. Thank you for the introduction.

  6. Hi Courtney! Thanks for writing this post. I think a portable boom box is such a great addition to any party or gathering. You have highlighted some really nice ones. Though I do really like Aiwa Exos-9, I’m not sure how well it can be transported around. I do love how the JBL Boombox is so durable. I had no idea it could be that waterproof. Here’s hoping the price comes down like you say!

  7. I bet your neighbours absolutely love you Courtney, if you’re banging out music on this kind of hardware on a regular basis.

    1. To be honest, I gave away my huge 14″ subwoofer. I used that for 20 years and during my college years. It was a thumper. I downsized to a 10″ sub when I moved but in order not to piss off my new neighbors it just sits in my room as a piece of furniture. But I do use quite a bit my Sony Extra Bass headphones That was a great purchase.

  8. Hey nice article you have there. This is indeed an awesome initiative. This is exact Boombox speaker I will be needing during my family picnic, the Aiwa Exos-9 it’s indeed efficient as it can work even without  power plug due to it’s lithium-ion battery  for approximately nine hours and has the ability to connect with mobile devices to enjoy does favorite songs from your playlist. It will be a great deal for me purchasing one as soon as possible.

  9. Courtney this is a great review, I have one of the older JBL boomboxes that has the docking station for the iPhone 4 and I have been looking to upgrade. My only complaint with my current JBL is that it has to be plugged in, I like the option of the new one to run on battery power; although I’m glad you point out that the sub runs on a lower wattage when on battery power, but with all of the competition out there I may have to consider a brand change.

I listen to a lot of Metal and Rock, which one of these do you think has the best sound for those genres of music?

    1. Hi Tyler,

I suggest the JBL for metal & rock. It is also very rugged as it can withstand being 1m underwater for 30 minutes.

I’m not saying you do that but just in case you get in a hairy situation…

    2. Hi Tyler,

For metal & rock I think the JBL was made for you. Plus it is very rugged and can be immersed in 1m of water for 30 minutes. But I wouldn’t want to test that out just for kicks.

  10. Nice review on bluetooth speakers. Bluetooth speakers is one commodity everyone wants to have in our home mosly we students.I have one a while ago until one of my female friends came over and collected it from me. From your review i think i will go for the JBL Boombox 2 bluetooth speaker.

I have been using it it for quite a while now and I have always enjoyed the sound quality. Although, the Harmon Kardon Onyx Studio 6 is on my mind now.

  18. Thanks for sharing this great article. You provided me with straightforward information about this Bluetooth speaker.
My only concern about this bass is the cost. I think the cost should be review a little down if the company wants to make more sales.
